The job market is tough right now. It can feel as treacherous as peering over the edge of a rushing waterfall in Yosemite National Park. It’s an employer driven market and candidates may be facing a job search that feels like the metaphor of rushing waters, unfamiliar currents and the uncertainly of what lies ahead. However, organizations take note: if you are hiring, this is the time to focus on the candidate experience.

Consider these questions:

  1. What is your application process like? And by that, I mean take the time to apply for the open role on your team. Give your Talent Acquisition partner a heads up that you are doing it to avoid an awkward conversation, then pay attention to how long the application process is, what information you are requesting up front, and how clear the job posting is.
  2. Does your Talent Acquisition partner know what skills and experience they should be screening out and screening in for you?
  3. How are candidates notified that they will be getting an interview? How quickly and in what way are they declined if you aren’t interested in speaking with them.
  4. Do you have a clear idea of what your budget for salary and incentives are? Have you spoken with your Talent Acquisition processional about it so that you and they are in alignment.
